Send Later Extension - Install Instructions

Apparently a couple of users have had trouble installing Send Later, and thats because of incomplete installation instructions on my behalf
The original page is now updated to include the following instructions:

Instructions for installing:
1. Right click on the link and choose “Save Link As…” or “Save Target As…”.
2. Choose a file path on your hard disk. [Desktop/Home folder is fine too].
3. In Thunderbird, goto Tools -> Extensions or Tools -> Add ons.
4. Choose Install, locate the the SL8TR.XPI file you saved in step 2.
5. Restart Thunderbird.
6. Sit back, relax and have a cuppa.

That last instruction is a MUST!!

Hi there,

sounds like a great extension and I’ve been longing for it :).

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to send the messages for me.
Its storing them in the “Drafts” folder on my imap account but they are never really send.
Right now I’ve been playing with stopping / starting thunderbird and out of the blue I got one of the test-mails (2.5 hours late).
Is there some timezone setting involved or something (in germany here) or maybe its only run on starting thunderbird?

thanks,

thomas

Hi,

Could it be possible to get some more information ?

1. When Send Later is running in the background, you should see the “SL8TR” text in the status bar on the right hand side corner. This should normally say IDLE or PEND (if you have messages queued up). Once every minute it should popup up a simple animation with a scrolling “–>” [This is when it is actually checking in the background]. Ideally when you “time” has come and gone it should have sent the email and PEND should either decrement or go back to idle.

2. I have had problems with send later when using “Send accounts” that require logins with a password to be typed in. [not saved in Thunderbird's Password Manager].

3. I have heard of problems when using services that required doing a GET MESSAGES BEFORE SENDING rule. [I am looking into that].

4. Also what version of OS and Thunderbird are you running ?

Karthik

Hi, I’m also having problems sending the scheduled mail. It just doesn’t send it and stays in the Drafts folder.

1. I you should see the text “Send Later 1.0.2″ in the status bar on the right hand side corner. No scrolling every minute.

Would I need to download it again? Please post any updates.

Thanks.

Hello!

This could be a great extension for my work as an admin. assistant at an academic department.

One question — will it work with the computer turned off (or application closed)? I would like to be able to set up some messages to be sent while I am on vacation.

Best,

Elisa

Hi Elisa,

Unfortunately this is a “Client Application Extension” [for Thunderbird) which means that the message is sent later by a running instance of Thunderbird on your PC. This cannot work with thunderbird closed or with your computer turned off.

There are some services on the web that will allow you to send messages later [but will cost you a subscription fee].
